The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) and the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) requested protection on Tuesday for those who have faced threats following allegations that there was “credible” intelligence that B.C. Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was assassinated by “agents of India.”
“We are specifically asking for Sikh activists – those that have been identified as having threats – and there are a number of Canadian Sikhs that have been identified as having a threat to their life and we are asking for the government of Canada to provide protection for these Sikhs in Canada,” said Mukhbir Singh, who is part of the board of directors of the WSO.
On June 18, Nijjar, 45, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in B.C.
The Indian government has rejected what it calls “absurd” allegations.
