A panel of Brazilian Supreme Court justices sentenced former president Jair Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3 months in prison Thursday, convicting him of attempting a coup to remain in power after his 2022 electoral defeat. Bolsonaro, who has denied any wrongdoing, is currently under house arrest in Brasília and can still appeal the ruling. “We knew he would be convicted, there was ample evidence,” a source said.
