The great bell of Notre Dame rang through Paris on Wednesday, one year after a fire gutted the famous cathedral.
While the city was on lockdown as part of measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, some people did gather to hear the bell ring at 8 p.m. local time and applauded.
The church’s rector, Patrick Chauvet, said that the cathedral was the “heart” of both France and Paris, and that it was ringing not only for the anniversary but to “express our sense of hope” during the ongoing pandemic for both families who lost someone and healthcare workers.
