In New York, Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as mayor after his surprise win in the November election. The 34-year-old looks set to cross swords with US President Donald Trump over the course of his term, especially over Trump’s aggressive anti-immigration agenda. At his inauguration ceremony, which was attended by the likes of Bernie Sanders and Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, Mamdani vowed to fulfil his campaign pledges of making New York a more affordable city.
