PRESS REVIEW – Wednesday, October 8, 2025: France’s political misfortunes continue to make the French front pages. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence has made its way into our personal lives. Elsewhere, French sailing superstar Charlie Dalin reveals his health battles. Finally, Lebron James disappoints his fans.
The French papers are still discussing the rather chaotic last few days in France. Libération once again has a very evocative front page and says that the president has never been more vulnerable. La Croix’s front page features a photo of Emmanuel Macron by himself and headlines with: “Macron alone in the face of the crisis”. Meanwhile, Le Figaro‘s headline reads: “Macron dropped by his own”.
Elsewhere, artificial intelligence is revolutionising the world as we know it, and new AI chatbots could even change our love lives. The New York Times discusses Elon Musk’s gamble on “sexy AI companions”. Experts say it is just the latest development in the race to intimacy for the AI industry. Business Insider features what is likely to be the first interview of an AI-human couple. Plus, the Guardian investigates the troubling rise of AI girlfriends.
Meanwhile, FranceInfo reports that French sailing superstar Charlie Dalin has revealed that he circumnavigated the globe whilst fighting intestinal cancer. He has already announced he will not take part in the next edition of the Vendée Globe in 2028, but hopes to be back on the seas soon.
Finally, basketball fans are not impressed with LeBron James’ latest stunt. His teasing of a “decision”, which turned out to be just an advert, sent the internet into a frenzy and saw ticket prices soar, as French paper Ouest France reports. The Athletic says it was the cringiest and corniest thing Lebron James has done in his otherwise brilliant career.
